Safe weight loss aid w/ exercise and diet plan?

jwiseman1 asked:

I am about 5′ 10″ 168 lbs, male, age 19. I realize that this isn’t excessively overweight by typical standards but I’m trying to take some steps towards getting into shape by shedding some body fat and building some more muscle.

For the past month or two I’ve been exercising on an average of 2-4 times per week for about 30 minutes total each day and am trying to restrict my caloric intake to less than 1700 per day. I am seeing some results but I’d like to take it a step further if possible.

Are there any safe, all-natural if possible, supplements or drugs I can take that can assist me in either burning calories, building lean muscle, and/or reducing my appetite (I have a pretty big one at times)? I’m well aware of the negative effects that commercial weight loss pills can have, but I don’t want something that will do it all more me, just an AID coupled with my diet and exercise. Are there any changes I should make in my current diet/exercise plan to increase effectiveness? Any help at all is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
My current exercise “plan” usually consists of me biking 3-5 miles up- and down-hill, followed by push ups, crunches, and pull ups. I just started with the latter exercises so it will take some time to build up some strength before I can consider it legitimate weight exercises.

  1. good for you!

    well run
and ur current work our is nothing at all at least hour workouts that are 5 times a week
    build up endurance

  2. There’s no reason for you to take a pill. You will be able to get ripped if continue eating healthy and exercising. You’re 19 with a high metabolism. I understand that you’d like to see better results but these pills will do more damage than good. Drink 1-3 cups of green tea a day and it’ll help boost your metabolism, drinking a lot of water will help supress your appetite too. Just be patient and you’ll see results

  3. Your still in the normal BMI range, which is good.
1700 calories is about the right amount for a male to loose weight; don’t be afraid to exceed to 2000 (that’s perfectly fine). Remember to be getting all your essential nutrients: about 40-45g of fat (try your best to avoid all saturated/trans fats) about 200g of carbohydrates (keep them all from natural sources such as brown rice, wheat bread, oatmeal, ect) 150-200g of protein mostly from natural sources (only take a protein powder if necessary and if you do, take it pre and post workout) Try to avoid all artificial flavorings. Stay away from High Fructose Corn Syrup and Hydrogenated Oils
Many people assume that cardiovascular activity is best for losing weight, however in my opinion, weight training is the best method. Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t do cardio, but incorporate cardio after your weight training specific exercises.
Creatine is possibly the most used safe supplement for someone looking on gaining muscle mass. In short, Creatine is a substance normally found in your body due to consumption of animal meats. This substance rapidly reproduces ATP energy in your muscles, thus, causing one’s body to perform better at the gym. Creatine can be purchased at your local supplement store (GNC recommended). Be sure to drink a lot of water. 10 Cups a day, I recommend.

  4. Do not take any pills, the negative effects outweigh the positives. It sounds like the amount of calories you are taking in is ok, if you could reduce it a little it wouldn’t hurt but don’t go overboard. The reason you are not seeing as much results is also due to your amount of exercise. You should be exercising 5-6 days a week to get maximum results. (for 60-90minutes/day) If you are trying to lose weight you should be doing cardio 5 days a week for 1 hour and incorporate weight training to tone your body as you shed weight and body fat. You should do weight training every other day to give your muscles a break and allow them to recover. Don’t forget to stretch before every workout to insure your body from injury. Best of luck! :)

  5. Hey,

Metabolism is the word you should research. I will try to sum up what you have to do for optimal metabolism.

1700 calories and less might be to little. You will feel bad because you lack blood sugar. For an healthy diet I recommend you to stay at 2500-3000 calories a day but improve what you actually eat. For me it worked to switch to whole grain products and 9 small meals instead of 2 every day. I take my food with me and then eat every 1.5 hours.

By doing so you will keep your metabolism in tact. The metabolism sets the rate at which you burn body fat and therefore lose weight. Another important aspect is the morning exercise (http://www.killweight.info/the-importance-of-morning-exercise/). Doing that sets the metabolism rate for the rest of the day! If you work out at 10 pm you don’t really benefit a lot, but if you work out at 6 am, then you have a long metabolism time for your body.

Also try drinking cold water. The cold temperature forces the body to heat the water up to 37 ° C, which requires additional calories. Drinking 5 liters of ice-water every day can sum up to 40 grams fat burned every day. Calculate that for a month and you lose a kg just because of drinking colder water. But I think the quality of the food you take is most important. A basic rule: never short chained carbohydrates (sugar, bread, everything that was worked a lot on for production) with fat. The short carbohydrates will make you store the fat, as they release insulin in your body. So, no Coca Cola together with a Burger. If you eat a burger, take no ketchup or any other sauce, try to take it with whole grain bread.

    Good luck!

  6. Three steps that have really helped me are dieting, exercising, and the correct weight loss supplement for losing weight. Focus on those three things and you will lose weight considerably. I exercise 30 mins a day along with taking Proactol, a natural weight loss supplement that I saved money on at theweightlossplace.com

Good luck and stay focused = )
