Best Flat Stomach Exercises And Tips To Flatten Your Stomach

flat stomach exercises
Charles A. Inniss, Jr. DPT asked:

Sit ups and crunches are not the best way to get a flat stomach. Actually, walking and running are the best stomach flattening exercises.  So many people make the mistake of slaving away on the floor doing thousands of crunches everyday in the hopes that it will give them a flat stomach.  However, stomach exercises only play a small role in actually giving you a flat stomach.

The #1 myth in fitness is that you can spot reduce fat by exercising the muscles in the area that you want to lose fat from.  This is known as the spot reduction myth.  Our bodies naturally store more fat is some areas based on gender and genetics.  Women tend to store excess fat on the thighs, hips, and stomach, and men tend to store excess fat on the abdomen.

The reason we store more fat in certain areas is that there is a higher number of fat cells in that area.  There are not many fat cells in the hands, so you rarely see someone with fat hands unless they are really obese.  So despite what the marketers try to convince you, you cannot spot reduce fat by doing targeted exercises for any area of your body, including your stomach.

Here’s just a quick distinction between spot reduction and toning muscles or building muscles.  You can definitely tone muscles or build lean muscles with targeted exercises.  Let’s say that your arms are not well developed and a little flabby.  If you started doing arm exercises you would definitely tone and build your arm muscles.  The problem that many gym-goers face is that they have built their muscles through weight training exercises, but they still have a layer of fat covering up those muscles.

In order to get a flat stomach you need to take a comprehensive approach to fitness and perform weight training, aerobic exercise, stomach exercises, and eat a healthy diet.  After eating a healthy diet, aerobic exercise might be the most important thing to focus on if you want to get a flat stomach because aerobic exercise burns tons of calories.

Walking and running both burn tons of calories and this helps you to lose stomach fat.  I have never met someone who runs on a regular basis that was significantly overweight.  And if you think about athletes, running is the secret to how they keep and get flat stomachs.  Every track and field athlete (with the exception of throwers like shot putters and discus throwers) has a flat stomach because they run all the time for exercise.  Basketball players, soccer players, and tennis players run all the time and generally speaking they all have flat stomachs.

Running burns tons of calories and it is the best stomach flattening exercise.  Running is way better than sit ups for burning calories.  If you run at a 6 minute per mile pace, you can burn about 500 in 30 minutes.  If you wanted to burn 500 calories doing sit ups, you have to do more than 2500 sit ups.  Assuming that you could do 50 sit ups every minute, it would take you 50 minutes to do 2500 sit ups-and that’s straight with no rest.  I don’t know of any athletes that can do 2500 sit ups in a row or even in a day, but I do know quite a few people that can burn 500 calories in 30 minutes running.

Now, if you have bad knees or can’t run fast, don’t fret.  Walking is also a great exercise for people who want to get a flat stomach.  Getting a flat stomach is all about burning calories and losing body fat.  Walking 5 miles a day will burn about 500 calories. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather walk 5 miles a day than do 2500 sit ups.

Okay, let’s recap.  You can’t magically burn off stomach fat and get a flat stomach simply by doing stomach exercises.  If you want to get a flat stomach, you have to lose body fat and lose weight.  In my opinion walking and running are some of the best stomach flattening exercises, so aim for 20-60 minutes a day of aerobic exercises 3-5 days a week.

Stomach Exercise Schedules – Giving It The Right Time!

flat stomach exercises
Abhishek Agarwal asked:

There’s no question, people do want flat stomach, whether it’s a woman who has just had a kid, or a guy who likes to impress people. When most of them have their good intentions while it comes down to build their “six pack” many don’t find dedication or time to really follow and to see the real results they want, and usually they give up. To solve these problems there are many ideas which helps a person wanting a flat stomach but can’t find the energy or time to perform intense exercises for the stomach.

For many who want to do the stomach workouts, there are as many, probably even more, who like to watch TV. This is the perfect time to perform these stomach exercises. During ads, or every 10 minutes if there are no ads, lie on the ground and do many exercises for stomach as possible in the commercial break. If you haven’t done your stomach exercises for a while, it’s better to start it slowly, but make it as a sport, and try doing more repetitions every time. Follow this plan; it would help the body in many different ways. First, there are no extra schedules involved, for most, watching TV at some time in the day is quite natural hence no additional time is taken, from the day for doing these stomach exercises. The 2nd thing is this strategy would help us with is that, any human body must not be motionless for more than 30 minutes , getting up and doing these stomach exercises for every few minutes boosts up your body’s metabolism rate.

The other good time to perform these stomach exercises is as the first thing during the morning hours. Try to roll out of the bed and lie on the floor, then do as many repetitions possible in a particular time limit, it can be even just 5 minutes. There’s a lot of proof to prove that exercising, as the 1st thing during the morning hours, might be much more beneficial to an individual than trying to exercise in other times of a day. There are lots of reasons for this but still; one valid reason would be that it gets the metabolism rate going for the entire day after a night’s sleep. As most of the people are more concerned about the look of the stomach, it seems to be logical to start the day off with a set of stomach workouts.

Of course, for people who are able to allot time every day to exercise, their routine must include stomach exercise. There are reports, which say that muscles should be rested, so, exercise one particular muscle group every day, while some others say that abs muscles can be exercised everyday. A way to answer this question that, when to perform these stomach exercises, every other day or every day is listen to your own body first. If those stomach muscles become sore, give them rest, if not then work on them very intensely on the next day, however try to imbibe at least 1 set of stomach workouts daily.

There’s good reason for the desire to develop strong abdomen muscles, besides for the sake of appearance. This becomes the core of the body. If it’s not strong, the whole body will be suffering. The best news is, many stomach exercises might be done everywhere with absolutely zero machines or equipments. With a little bit of diligence and little creativity, there’s awesome time throughout the day for doing stomach exercises

How to Get a Flat Stomach with Diet and Exercise

flat stomach exercises
Andrew Bicknell asked:

For many people finding out how to get a flat stomach has become something of a quest. After several mornings of looking in the mirror and getting tired of seeing more then they would like they decide it is time to do something about it. Getting rid of that extra layer or that newly formed pooch becomes something of an obsession.

Here’s the first hurdle that everyone who has thought about getting rid of that stomach bulge needs to jump over. There is a difference between thinking about doing something about it and actually doing something about it. People are born to procrastinate and this is no different when it comes to diet and exercise. If you are serious then you just need to get to work and do it.

When a plan is finally formulated it usually looks something like this; you go on a diet of some kind and if you are really motivated embark on an exercise program. This makes sense because we all know that the fewer calories we take in the more fat we can lose. Add jogging a few times a week and some sit-up and before long that rebellious stomach will be put back in its place.

Unfortunately the body doesn’t quite work this way. We all need a certain amount of calories in order for our body’s to function at an optimum level. If the caloric intake falls below this level the body will actually begin to store more fat because it thinks it’s in starvation mode. In fact a low calorie diet will cause the whole body metabolism to slow down.

This does not mean that eating more is the answer to getting a flat stomach. Eating a healthy diet is the most important factor when it comes to caloric intake. By giving your body the nutrients it needs it will not only increase it metabolism but also mobilize it fat stores more efficiently which leads to a reduction in weight. Foods high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals are the way to go.

The next portion of any stomach flattening endeavor is an exercise program. This can of course involve the normal abdominal exercises that everyone is familiar with; sit-ups, crunches, and the like but there is more to an exercise regimen then that. A flat stomach is nice but we have to think of the body overall.

This is where resistance or weight training of some sort comes into play. Working all the major muscle groups not only shapes and tones the entire body but it creates a rise in metabolic rate which burns away even more calories. Your core muscles, which include your abdominals, are also worked during weight training because these are the muscles that stabilize the body during any form of activity.

It is also important to incorporate some form of aerobic training into any exercise program. This can be anything from walking to an aerobics class. Aerobic exercise will not only burn extra calories it also strengthens the cardiovascular system, reducing the risk of heart disease and other conditions.
